The energy company Orizon announced this Wednesday (16) the creation of a new company, BioE, responsible for biomethane and energy generation projects, with investments of around R$ 1.2 billion over the next two years.
Today, Orizon already produces biomethane for two operational assets, Biometano Paulínia and UTE Paulínia Verde. With BioE, renewable gas will be taken to the company’s other 10 plants.
According to the CEO of Orizon, Milton Pilão, the creation of a new business arm focused on biomethane is due to the appreciation of renewable gas and the low supply of the product in Brazil.
“The volume of renewable gas currently available in Brazil is less than one million cubic meters per day. And Brazilian industry is demanding a lot to decarbonize its energy matrix,” Pilão told Reuters.
The expectation is that the new company will generate an additional Ebitda of R$ 550 million per year, when the plants reach maturity.
