Orlando Bloom knows that successful partnerships often require personal growth.
The actor was a guest on the podcast “What Now? withTrevor Noah” on Thursday, where he discussed his new documentary series “Orlando Bloom: To the Edge.” Noah also asked about his life away from work, commenting that Bloom and his partner Katy Perry seemed to be living “a normal life.”
“I think one of the things I fell in love with Katy for was, she hates it when I say this, so I have to say this carefully, but her music was everywhere, right? When I arrived, it was on every radio station, but I wasn't aware of what I was listening to. But I fell in love with Katheryn, a girl from Santa Barbara,” Bloom replied.
He continued, saying that the singer had parents who were “pastors who lived on coupons to buy food. We're not talking about glamorous Montecito. It’s the side (of Santa Barbara) that no one knows about.”
Bloom said Katy also “demands” that he evolve. “And I feel like I do the same for her,” he said.
“And that gives fireworks, pardon the pun,” he said, citing “Fireworks”, one of the singer’s hits. “But it also brings a lot of fun and a lot of growth.”
The two began dating in 2016 and had a daughter, Daisy Dove, in 2020.
Bloom added that she wouldn't change the relationship for anything.
“I wouldn't change it for anything, even when sometimes it feels like, 'How do we do this?' Because we have two gigantic careers and lives, and sometimes hers is like a universe,” he said.
“But I think I keep going back to her and trying to hold her hand and take her back to the sandbox and say, let's just build a sandcastle.”
