Oscar 2021: Frances McDormand on the red carpet with regrowth, free from conventions

Frances McDormand who at the 2021 Oscars received the third career statuette for best actress at the age of 63, for Nomadland, the film she co-produced, directed by Chinese director Chloe Zhao, doesn’t like glamor. And this many already knew. She has often been considered the anti-diva of the star-system and in this edition of the Oscars she wanted to reiterate the concept.

To receive her award in presence on the red carpet of the 93rd edition of the Academy Awards she chose a decidedly anti-Hollywood look, tousled hair, visible regrowth and evening dress with feathers.

Was it a statement or just the desire for freedom from conventions that the actress marries in a completely casual way? Like her, many celebrities have recently freed themselves from the labels and aesthetic models of the past by renouncing the slavery of dye, also thanks to the pandemic that led everyone to stay more time at home, to do it by themselves while the hairdressing salons were closed.

For many, this more relaxed approach to aesthetics has become the new “normal” and a way of saying that what matters today more than appearance is substance. After all, the world of beauty thanks to the body positive movement, the philosophy of inclusivity screams a strong desire for authenticity and desire for freedom.

And Frances McDormand seems to have joined the chorus, voluntarily or maybe not, in delivering a strong message on the red carpet of the Oscars: lhe new narrative of beauty standards, long confined to strict stereotypes, today is no longer the rule to which we have to adapt.

Long live the freedom to be.

In the gallery we have collected photos of the stars who have said no to dye, at least for now.
