Oscar 2024: meet the directors nominated for the award

Five film directors were nominated this Tuesday (23) for the 2024 Oscar for best direction. Check out who they are and which films they are competing for the award for below.

Justine Triet

Nominated in the category for the film “Anatomy of a Fall”, Justine Triet, 45, is the only woman on the list to compete for the 2024 Oscar for best direction.

French, she studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris and became known for films with social themes.

“Anatomy of a Fall” has been standing out in other awards, such as the Golden Globes, where it received awards for the screenplay and best non-English language film. The production was also highlighted at Cannes in 2023.

Martin Scorsese

Martin Scorsese, 81, has been nominated for an Oscar ten times, but only won once, for “The Departed”.

A New Yorker, he directed films such as “Taxi Driver” (1976) and “Dangerous Paths” (1973). This time, he was nominated for an Oscar for directing “Killers of the Flower Moon.”

Christopher Nolan

One of the favorites for the award, Christopher Nolan, 53, directed well-known films in his career, such as “Divergent”, “Interstellar”, “Inception”, “Batman: The Dark Knight”, among others.

British, he was nominated for his direction of “Oppenheimer”.

His twelve feature films have already grossed the equivalent of more than R$20 billion dollars worldwide, making him one of the most commercially successful film directors in contemporary Hollywood.

Yorgos Lanthimos

Yorgos Lanthimos, 50, is a director and author known for his work on “The Lobster” (2015), “The Sacrifice of the Sacred Deer” (2017) and “Canine Tooth” (2009).

He was nominated for the 2024 Oscar for directing the film “Poor Creatures”, with Emma Stone, actress who won the 2024 Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy or musical (for her work in the production).

Greek, he had already been nominated for an Oscar four other times.

Jonathan Glazer

Jonathan Glazer, 58, was known for his work in “Under the Skin” (2013), “Reincarnation” (2004) and “Sexy Beast” (2000).

He was nominated for an Oscar 2024 for his direction of “Zone of Interest”.

British, he has a solid career that began in theater and moved to cinema and television, vehicles for which he produced feature films, short films, music videos and commercials.
