The broadcast of the 2024 Oscars was brought forward and will take place an hour earlier compared to last year, seeking to keep the audience high until the end of the program.
Last year, the ceremony began at 5pm local time in Los Angeles (9pm Brasília time), but the next event will begin at 4pm in California (8pm Brasília time), according to information from the American portal “The Hollywood News reporter”.
The purpose of the change is to ensure that the broadcast of the ceremony ends in a prime time in the states on the east coast of the United States (which are three hours ahead of California).
The Oscar ceremony usually lasts 3h30 and, in recent years, there has been a drop in audience as the night progresses, as the event always takes place on a Sunday.
The 96th edition of the annual event is scheduled for March 10, 2024, Jimmy Kimmel was announced as host of the ceremony for the fourth time.
The 56-year-old comedian, who previously helmed the awards show in 2017, 2018 and earlier this year, announced that he is excited to take the reins once again.
“I always dreamed of receiving the Oscar exactly four times”, joked the presenter when confirming the news.
Molly McNearney, Kimmel’s wife and one of the writers of his talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, will serve as executive producer on the broadcast.
