The 2025 Best Actress Oscar could be contested between Demi Moore 62, for “The Substance”, and Fernanda Torres 59, for “I’m Still Here.” The prediction that the dispute will be between these two renowned actresses was made by Johnny Oleksinski, entertainment critic for the New York Post.
Oleksinski highlighted that the growing admiration for Fernanda and Demi reduced the chances of other competitors in the category, such as Nicole Kidman (“Babygirl”) and Angelina Jolie (“Maria Callas”), which were named as favorites at the beginning of the season .
The critic also highlighted that, even without being nominated for the SAG Awards, Fernanda still has a great chance of being nominated for an Oscar, citing as an example Sandra Hüller which was in 2024 for “Anatomy of a Fall”, despite not having been remembered by SAG.
Although he raised Fernanda Torres’ place in the race, the critic believes that the statuette should go to Demi Moore. “Following her Golden Globe win — and her inspiring speech — the SAG Awards nomination cemented the bold Moore as the front-runner for the Oscars,” he declared.
It is worth noting that the competition for the Best Actress category is one of the fiercest this year. In total, there are eight candidates with a real chance of winning the award: Demi Moore, Fernanda Torres, Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Cynthia Erivo (“Wicked”), Marianne Jean-Baptiste (“Hard Truths”), Pamela Anderson (“The Last Showgirl”), Karla Sofia Gascón (“Emilia Pérez”) and Mikey Madison (“Anora”).
Oscar 2025 nominees will be revealed in January 19 .
