Oscar 2025: nominations for “I’m Still Here” generate spike in searches

THE nomination of the film “I’m Still Here” in three categories at the 2025 Oscars whose list of nominees was released this Thursday (23), generated a peak of searches for the name of the film reaching its maximum of the last seven days.

According to the Google Trends platform, at 11 am, minutes after the announcement, the number of searches increased by 300% compared to the previous hour.

The Brazilian production was nominated for the Best International Film and Best Film awards and the protagonist, Fernanda Torres, is competing in the Best Actress category.

The research focused on the Federal District and the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo — and mainly in the capital of Rio, in Porto Alegre and Niterói.

“I’m Still Here” is competing in the Best Film category with the features “Anora”, “The Brutalist”, “A Complete Stranger”, “Conclave”, “Dune: Part 2”, “Emilia Pérez”, “I’m Still Here ”, “Nickel Boys”, “The Substance” and “Wicked”.

The indication of Brazilian production by Walter Salles led to research on competitors being related.

“Nickel Boys”, for example, had an increase of 2,500% in the last seven days and actress Cynthia Erivo — star of “Wicked” — had her name searched 1,650% more than in the previous period.

Furthermore, the name of the protagonist of “Emilia Pérez” — the Spanish Karla Sofía Gáscon — was also related to the Brazilian film. The competitor, but a friend of Fernanda Torres, received a statement from the actress asking for respect for her fellow nominees.
