The 98th edition of the Award takes place in March 15 2026, with the nominees revealed by the Academy on January 22 next year.
One of the main changes is in the criteria so that academia members can vote in the awards categories – a factor that generated public criticism during this year’s Oscar, as many voters could make their choice without watching all the nominees.
From 2026, members of the institution should watch all the films indicated in a category to be eligible to vote in the final round of the Oscars. All designated nominees will also be included in the final vote.
Another change has to do with the use of artificial intelligence in the movies: the gym stressed that the use of technology will not contribute or harm the chances of a movie to obtain an indication.
“The academy and each section will judge the achievement taking into account the degree in which a human being was at the heart of creative authorship when choosing which film to reward,” he says in a statement.
Another change, announced earlier, is the inclusion of a new category in the award: Best cast who will recognize the cast directors responsible for selecting the actors of a movie.
