This Tuesday (23) the complete list of nominations for the 96th Oscar ceremony, which takes place on March 10, was released. With his tenth nomination, Martin Scorsese became the living director with the most award nominations, surpassing Steven Spielberg, who was nominated nine times.
At 81 years old, the director is competing for the Best Director award with his new film “Killers of the Flower Moon” alongside “Anatomy of a Fall” by Justine Triet, “Oppenheimer” by Christopher Nolan, “Poor Creatures” by Yorgos Lanthimos and “Zone of Interest” by Jonathan Glazer.
Despite numerous nominations, Scorsese only won the category once in 2006, with “The Departed”.
On the other hand, it is worth mentioning that his first nomination came in 1981, with “Raging Bull”. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spielberg is still ahead of Scorsese in this regard, having won the category twice in “Schindler's List”, in 1994, and in “Saving Private Ryan”, in 1999.
The award ceremony celebrates and recognizes the best professionals in the film industry and films from the year prior to the ceremony and takes place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, United States. The complete list of nominations can be found here.
