Former Paralympian Oscar Pistorius he was released on parole from a South African prison, almost 11 years after the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Officials confirmed that Pistorius was “at home” on Friday morninghaving served half of his sentence of more than 13 years.
Steenkamp's mother said she accepted the decision to release the former athlete but added that her family is the one “serving a life sentence,” according to BBC.

Pistorius was finally convicted of murder in 2015 after an appeals court overturned an earlier manslaughter verdict.
Under South African law, all offenders are eligible to be considered for parole when they have served half of their total sentence, which for Pistorius it was finally set in 2017 at 13 years and five months.
He will live under strict conditions – including not being able to speak to the media – until his sentence expires in 2029.
