Let’s face it right away: the award ceremonies are pretty boring, and the Oscars are no exception. Leaving aside some very rare episodes – from Roberto Benigni who climbs on the red armchairs of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to collect the award from the hands of Sophia Loren, to the group selfie of Ellen DeGeneres with Bradley Cooper, Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and company -, in most cases it all boils down to skimpy thank you speeches and less and less rekindled pathos, crushed by the brutal television times that require the Oscars to be sent to prevent the public from falling asleep, or worse, changing the channel – for years, in fact, the ceremony has lost audience, putting the organizers in crisis in search of more and more amazing flashes for attract the attention of viewers.
So, instead of dwelling on details and curiosities that we will risk forgetting tomorrow – for the record, the ceremony will be broadcast on the night between Sunday 27 and Monday 28 March on Sky Cinema Oscar (Sky channel 303) and streaming on NOW -, it is more appropriate to review the real stars of the Oscars, as well as the only ones who could really survive the test of time: the films in competition. Very different films, but able to bring together the members of the Academy and to satisfy all tastesfrom the niche to the most popular, from the classic European taste to the American mainstream.
