The ceremony of the 94th edition of the Oscar, on Sunday night (27), returns fully to the Dolby Theater, in Los Angeles (USA), and brings as a novelty the announcement of eight categories before the official start of the event. The winner of best supporting actress is Ariana DeBose, for her performance in Love, Sublime Love.
Science fiction “Dune” has already received four gold statuettes tonight: best production design, best editing, best soundtrack and best sound.
The category of best documentary in short film went to “The Queen of Basketball”. The winner for best animated short was “The Windshield Wiper”.
“Tammy Faye’s Eyes” took home the Oscar for Best Hair and Makeup, another of the categories announced before the awards began. And best short film went to “The Long Goodbye”.
After an atypical year, still suffering the reflexes of the Covid-19 pandemic, the biggest cinema event takes place again in the pre-pandemic molds, being held in March – in 2021 the event was postponed by two months, due to the peak of contamination by the coronavirus – and with the ceremony concentrated only at the Dolby Theater.
However, the event will have the capacity reduced to 2,500 guests instead of 3,300.
In this edition, three women command the attraction: Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Skies. Another move by the presidency of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences which signals a change in posture in search of more diversity in the award.
This year, the clash between streaming platforms and major studios has big films competing for the night’s top prize. Netflix comes with two nominations: the long “Attack of the Dogs” and “Don’t Look Up”. Universal enters with “Belfast”. Warner Bros with “Dune”. And Disney with “Amor, Sublime Amor”.
The presence of streaming nominees is already predominant. Seven of the ten productions that compete for best film are available on platforms, and the rest can be viewed through rental or digital purchase.
