Ouigo puts on sale its tickets for the High Speed between Madrid and Barcelona

Ouigo, the new operator of high-speed trains, has put on sale today the tickets to travel on its first route in Spain, from Madrid to Barcelona, starting next May 10, coinciding with the end of the alarm status programmed for the previous day.

In this way, the ‘low cost’ brand of the French public operator SNCF, provisionally delays the date of its launch in Spain by two months, after it announced its premiere for the next 15 of March.

However, according to company sources, Ouigo’s purpose was to launch the service before May, although seats have begun to be put on sale from this date due to the current six-month alarm state approved on last November 9, which restricts the mobility of people due to Covid-19.

All the tickets offered for sale by the company are customizable, with a base rate of 9 euros that includes hand luggage and cabin luggage, as well as the option to change the ticket holder until the day before the trip.

For an additional 9 euros, passengers will be able to access the ‘Ouigo Plus’ package, which includes a choice of seat, the possibility of reserving an ‘XL’ seat, an additional piece of luggage and connection to ‘OUIFun’, the system inflight entertainment featuring a selection of movies, series, animations, podcasts, magazines and games.

The company also offers the possibility of adding other options to the menu, such as additional luggage for 5 euros, flexible tickets for 7 euros or traveling with a pet in transport for 10 euros.

CHILDREN FOR 5 EUROS

For his part, tickets for children under 3 are free and children between 4 and 13 years old – both included – can travel with a flat rate of 5 euros, including your own carry-on luggage.

Regarding the measures contemplated for Covid-19, masks will be mandatory for both passengers and crew, there will be hydroalcoholic gel at the disposal of travelers and cleaning and disinfection will be carried out on all trains.

The new high-speed company, the first to operate within the framework of the liberalization of transport in Spain, will have a total of 10 daily departures that will link Madrid and Barcelona in 2 hours and 30 minutes. The line will include stops in Zaragoza and Tarragona.

“We are proud to launch the sales of the Ouigo trains in Spain today. Today we achieved this milestone after two years of work in which more than 300 people have participated. Today two objectives have been achieved: to offer routes of high speed to the largest possible number of passengers and to develop transport with the lowest carbon footprint in Europe “, says Alain Krakovitch, CEO of Voyages SNCF in France.
