An outcry and great reactions were caused by Jeremy Clarkson with some of his comments about Meghan Markle.
In the article published on Friday in the British newspaper “The Sun”, the former “Top Gear” presenter and journalist writes that he hates the Megan “at a cellular level” and that she “dreams of the day she will be forced to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while crowds chant ‘Shame!’ and they will throw lumps of excrement at her”. Without any hesitation, in fact, Jeremy Clarkson added: “Everyone my age thinks the same way».
The comments caused wave of reactions and negative criticism.
Comedian John Bishop tweeted that the comments were a “blatant call to incite humiliation and violence against a woman.”
WTF is this??
I don’t care who you are or who you work for you simply can’t write things like this. It is a blatant appeal to incite humiliation and violence on a woman. Some have excused it as dark humor. There is my joke here @JeremyClarkson and no excuse. https://t.co/ewU8bnykhj— John Bishop (@JohnBishop100) December 18, 2022
And presenter Carol Vonderman took issue, tweeting: “No Jeremy Clarkson. Not on any level, under any circumstances, it’s not okay to write these things about any woman, and absolutely not about ‘everyone my age thinks the same’.”
Author Philip Pullman wrote: “That Jeremy Clarkson can write such things and publish them without shame tells us all we need to know about the way Rupert Murdoch has poisoned and rotted our public life.”
Opposite of her father, Clarkson’s daughter
Clarkson’s daughter Emily, who hosts the ‘Should I Delete That?’ podcast, was praised by many on social media for an Instagram post about her father’s comments about Meghan Markle which read: “I want to make it very clear that I oppose everything my dad has said about Meghan Markle and I still support those targeted in online hate.”
Comedian Dom Jolly said he was “literally disgusted” by Clarkson’s “extremely vile and disgusting comments” and added: “What is it that turns these types of men on so much?”
Clarkson’s colleague Jason Munford tweeted a photo of an excerpt from the article with the caption: “If you can defend Clarkson on this then please don’t answer me, just unfollow and block and move on. We are never going to agree.”
