Outdoor cafes and restaurants are opening in Hungary

Authorities in Hungary are opening open-air cafes and restaurants as of today, Prime Minister Victor Orbμπn announced today, adding that the proportion of vaccinated people in the country will reach 40% by the middle of next week and that currently more than one a third of the population have already received at least one dose of the vaccine Covid-19.

The “3.5 million” threshold in this country of 9.8 million has been exceeded, “so from Saturday the outdoor dining areas will be able to receive customers again,” Orban said in a weekly radio interview and expressed his satisfaction with the fact that he will soon be able to enjoy his first, since November, beer in the open air of a bar.

Then, as broadcast by AMPE, will be followed by hotels, theaters, cinemas, gyms, public baths, as well as restaurant halls, once the number of people vaccinated reaches 4 million, something that is initially expected to happen in the middle of next week. Customers must, however, present a “certificate of immunity”.

THE Hungary has one of the highest vaccination rates in the European Union, of which it is the only member to use the Russian Sputnik vaccine and the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine, although these vaccines have not yet been given the green light by the European regulator.

But it is also one of the countries hardest hit by its pandemic coronavirus, as to date about 26,000 deaths have been recorded there, ie one of the highest accounts in the world in proportion to the population.

The government also tabled a bill in parliament this week extend the state of emergency until September which is in force today and allows it to rule the country by decree.

In the face of a situation that remains critical, many voices are being raised, in opposition and among doctors, against the easing of restrictions, which is considered premature.

But the Victor Orban calls for a reduction in cases and deaths this week and wants to reopen the economy as soon as the 2022 spring parliamentary elections are announced in doubt.

In neighboring Slovenia, measures are also relaxing: cinemas and theaters, closed for more than six months, reopen today but are subject to strict sanitation, and hotels with less than 30 rooms reopen on Monday.
