Outside Spiegel, the editor-in-chief for “5-year-old Maria” who supposedly died in the Evros

Outside the magazineDer SpiegelĀ» is now located chief editor of Steffen Klusmann according to a publication of the German FAZ. The reason for his departure is focused, according to the publication, on the friction he had with the shareholders for “mistakes” and “scandalous cases“, like the one about her “5-year-old MariaĀ» who is supposed to have lost her life in Evro. Klusman’s position will be taken over by Dirk Kurbjuweit, as the company announced yesterday.

Recently, there have been several rumors that Steffen Klusmann will leave the magazine Der Spiegel and its publication FAZ came to confirm them.

FAZ, in its publication, states that the Association of German Journalists (DJV) “has been demanding an end to the Spiegel controversy for a long time. The union could just as well demand that the magazine cease publication. Because litigation is “part” of Spiegel. This has been the case since the time of its founder, Rudolf Augstein, and has never changed. The editors like to wear themselves down here one after the other. Now it’s Steffen Klusmann’s turn. After rumors of his impending departure had already circulated around the world, on Thursday night it became official: Klusmann is leaving Der Spiegel. And it was allegedly done at the urging of the staff and management.”

“It had become clear that they wanted to get rid of Klusmann”

The same publication states that the editor-in-chief was in “constant confrontation” with one of the three shareholders – heirs of the founder of the magazine and how it was clear that they wanted to get rid of him. According to what FAZ reports, the specific shareholder considers Klusmann responsible for the “failure with the story of the girl from Syria, who allegedly died on the Greek-Turkish border, whichin all probability there was none.”

At a shareholder meeting, Klusmann was also reportedly accused of not supporting the interplay of digital and analog Spiegel.

Letter of protest and support

The same publication reports that editors of Der Spiegal wrote a letter of protest supporting the editor-in-chief, with FAZ speaking of “coup attempt”.

ā€œHe was blamed for mistakes that were more the management’s responsibility. The editorial staff is fighting against the publisher and the shareholders for their freedom and for Klusmann to stay,” the publication points out.

It is noted that in his statements yesterday, George Tsipras emphasized on this specific issue that: “In essence, we were not wrong about little Maria of Evros”
