Over 210,000 faithful bid farewell to Pope Benedict: Popular pilgrimage to Vatican continues

It continues for the third day Vatican to be filled with believers who want to pay homage to late pontiff emeritus Benedict and to say the last goodbye to him.

According to the Italian television Rai, on Monday (2/1) and Tuesday (3/1), the pilgrims totaled 140,000. By seven o’clock tonight, Wednesday (4/1), they are expected to exceed 70,000.

Tomorrow morning, the body of the late pontiff will be taken outside the church for the funeral, which will be officiated by Pope Francis. The Vatican announced that the ceremony will be similar to that planned for each pontiff, with some minor changes.. Only once before, in 1802, was the funeral of a Catholic pope attended by his successor.
