Over a billion people in the world suffer from “acute” poverty

More than a billion people in the world suffer from “acute” poverty, half of whom are minors, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP/PNUD) said today. In their annual report, this UN agency and the research center Oxford Initiative on Poverty and Human Development (OPHI) express particular concern about the poverty rate, which is three times higher in countries at war, the a time when never since the Second World War there have been as many armed conflicts in the world as in 2023. The UN Development Program and the Oxford research center have been compiling their Global Multidimensional Poverty Index since 2010, gathering data from 112 countries in which about 6.3 billion people live there.
