The drive is designed as a PCIe 4.0 x16 expansion card. Basically, it’s an array of eight M.2 SSDs on a single board. The data transfer speed reaches 26,000 MB / s, and the total volume is 64 TB.

This is enough to edit and play up to 16 streams of 8K ProRes444 video without interruption, comfortably work with virtual and augmented reality environments, large photos and graphic files, accelerate preview, rendering and processing in VFX programs. Developers can benefit from the ability to work with multiple production libraries and applications, iterate more DevOps in less time, and quickly offload data to the cloud for IoT governance.

Applications for the new product include computing applications at the edge of the cloud, including industrial automation, smart city ecosystems and smart retail solutions. Active cooling is used to ensure operation at maximum speed for a long time.

The array is configured and managed by the SoftRAID XT software. On macOS computers, it is possible to create a RAID 0/1/4/5/1 + 0 (10) array, on Windows computers – RAID 0/1. SoftRAID includes features such as array validation and failure prediction. Provides local and cloud backups. The compatibility list includes macOS 11 Big Sur, Mac M1, and Windows 10. The drives are backed by a five-year warranty.

In terms of pricing, the OWC Accelsior 8M2 costs $ 799 without drives. There are also 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64TB storage options available starting at $ 1,299.
