According to RBC, the demand for boxed versions of games for the Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo consoles has skyrocketed in Russia.
During the first quarter, sales of boxed games for consoles increased by 80-95% in various retail chains compared to the same period in 2021. At the same time, games have risen in price significantly over the past year. In some weeks, with a 270% increase in sales, revenue grew by 460%. Sales of physical PlayStation Plus subscription cards have also increased markedly.
Such a rise in sales of boxed versions of games is associated with the fact that the online stores of the manufacturers of the PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo consoles have limited work for Russian customers after the start of the military operation in Ukraine.

In this situation, those fans of console games who have chosen versions of consoles without optical drives are not very lucky. Such consoles only support the playback of digital versions of games.
It is believed that such a hype will subside quickly enough, and the stocks of boxed versions of games available in warehouses will last for several more months. In the future, market participants are counting on gray imports, that is, the ability to import foreign-made goods into the country without the consent of the copyright holders.
