Oxbotica, a young self-driving software company, said Wednesday that it is joining forces with AppliedEV to develop a fully autonomous multipurpose vehicle that can be used in a variety of commercial applications.
The first areas of application for unmanned electric vehicles are industrial logistics and automated delivery of goods.

“We have ambitious deployment targets in the coming years driven by an extraordinary market appetite for a world-class product,” said Oxbotica founder Paul Newman in a statement.
In April, UK-based online grocery retailer Ocado said it would invest £ 10m in Oxbotica as part of a collaboration to reduce the cost of delivery on the latter route to the consumer.
“We are delighted and supportive of this collaboration between Oxbotica and AppliedEV as we see it as an important step towards the development of advanced autonomous mobility solutions for the Ocado Smart Platform,” said Alex Harvey, Head of Division cutting edge technology at Ocado Technology.
AppliedEV, an autonomous electric vehicle manufacturer founded by former Tesla and General Motors executives, will provide an electric vehicle platform for the vehicle under development.
AppliedEV CEO Julian Broadbent believes the partnership can deliver “good commercial results” in just 12 months.
In January, Oxbotica said it had raised $ 47 million in a funding round led by oil giant BP’s venture capital arm.
