Ozzy Osbourne retires from touring due to crash aftermath: ‘I never thought it would end up like this’

One of the greatest showmen in the history of music, Ozzy Osbourne officially declared his retirement from touring, this Wednesday (1st), after more than 50 years of career.

“I could never have imagined that my touring days would end like this”, wrote the “prince of darkness” in a statement released by his social networks, while his fans lamented in the comments.

Either way, the announcement doesn’t come as a complete surprise to fans. For years, the leader of Black Sabbath has been facing health complications, especially in his spine.

In January 2019, Ozzy suffered a domestic accident at his home in Los Angeles, in the United States. In an interview with the Daily Mail newspaper, he reported that, while in the bathroom, he lost his balance and fell on his face on the floor.

The fall dislocated pins and metal rods that he had in his spine due to another serious accident, which he suffered while riding an ATV, in 2003, when he ended up in a coma. The year after the domestic accident, he revealed that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease for years.

In the statement released this Wednesday (1st), Ozzy said that, since 2019, his only goal was to return to the stage.

“My voice is fine. However, after three operations, stem cell treatments, endless sessions of physical therapy and most recently the groundbreaking cybernetic treatment (HAL), my body is physically weak,” she wrote.

“I am sincerely honored by the way you all have patiently held your tickets for all this time, but in all conscience I have now realized that I am not physically able to do my next Europe/UK tour as I know I would not be able to handle it. with the necessary trips”, he added.

Believe me when I say that the idea of ​​letting my fans down really FUCK ME, more than you’ll ever know. I never could have imagined that my touring days would end this way. My team is formulating ideas of where I can perform without having to travel from city to city and country to country.

He concluded by thanking his family, band, crew, fellow Judas Priest supporters on the canceled tour, and fans “for their dedication, loyalty, endless support and for giving me the life I never dreamed I’d have.”

“I love you all,” concluded Ozzy.

Due to Ozzy’s health and the Covid-19 pandemic, the UK and European shows of the “No More Tours 2” had been postponed a number of times. The expectation is that the 19 presentations – now canceled – would take place between May and June of this year.

In 2018, he came to Brazil with this tour, which was announced as his last world tour. Ozzy’s last visit to Brazil had performances in São Paulo, Curitiba, Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro.

In August last year, fans’ hopes for more concerts grew after the singer unexpectedly appeared for a performance alongside his guitarist colleague, Tony Iommi, at the closing of the “Commonwealth Games”, in England, in Birmingham – the city where the Black Sabbath was born in 1968.

Leaning on a support platform on his back, Ozzy sang the classics “Iron Man” and “Paranoid”.

Also last year, he released his 13th studio album titled “Patient Number 9”.

The album features a number of famous rock appearances, such as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Zakk Wylde, Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), Mike McCready (Pearl Jam), Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Duff Mckagan (Guns N ‘Roses) and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers).

With good reception from critics, the album took four nominations for the Grammy, which takes place this Saturday (5): “Best Rock Performance”, “Best Metal Performance”, “Best Rock Song” and “Best Rock Album”.
