P. Pikrammenos: The budget marks the return of the country to a normal development trajectory

“This budget marks the return of our country to a normal development trajectory,” said Deputy Prime Minister Panagiotis Pikrammenos during the plenary debate. Referring to the institutions, the independent authorities and the Justice, he stressed that they are the basic preconditions for the existence of social peace, but also of economic development. They are the main motivations for making investments, ie security and predictability.

In particular, for the Recovery Fund, he stated that its disbursements are inevitably linked to the quality and efficiency of the institutions. The National Plan for Recovery and Resilience has been enthusiastically accepted by the institutions of the European Union. However, there is still a lot of work to be done for the successful completion of the Plan and there the institutions will have to operate with transparency and efficiency. He stressed that transparent, fast and legally sound control is needed. That is why we are trying to upgrade and institutionalize the competent independent authorities, so that they can meet the increased demands.

Regarding the independent authorities, he noted that their operating framework, as it has been formed in our country, is completely non-uniform and is a source of problems and malfunctions. That is why we seek a careful clarification of the role of each authority, before reaching conclusions on whether and in what cases it is necessary to unify principles with a similar or related object, and even to abolish principles that do not have to present a work.

Regarding the key role of Justice in the country’s economy and development, the Deputy Prime Minister said that even the best-designed regulatory environment may not be efficient if it is not combined with an effective judiciary. The government, he said, has already taken a number of initiatives, which we expect will substantially help reduce the time required to make decisions. He described the government’s upgrade in the National School of Judicial Officers as a fundamental reform. The so-called “judicial charter” is crucial for the evaluation of judicial officials and a catalyst for the rapid and effective administration of justice.
