The goal of the Ministry of Civil Protection is to make the Greek Police even better, a police with a human face, friendly to citizens, friendly to young people, relentless and effective in dealing with any form of crime, said the competent Minister Panagiotis Theodorikakos, during debate of the budget in Parliament.

– the Immediate Action Communication Center was strengthened.

– no kind of abat is allowed, neither in Attica nor anywhere in the country.

Reduction of robberies, burglaries

Mr. Theodorikakos presented data according to which in the quarter of September, October, November 2021, compared to the respective period of 2018 and 2019, there is a reduction in robberies in the Attica basin by 45%, a decrease in thefts and burglaries by 13% and 18%.

End to administrative side effects

As he also informed the national delegation, the digitization of the services is evolving in order to release forces and to serve the citizen. “We are reducing the movements and visits of citizens to the police stations”, said Mr. Theodorikakos, noting that this is already done with the original signature that is done electronically through gov.gr and “the big bet for next year is the unblocking of ELAS from bureaucratic and administrative side effects, such as the delivery of petitions “.

Domestic violence

Referring to the crimes of domestic and gender-based violence, which have led to confinement and the pandemic, the Minister of Citizen Protection said that 5 Offices of Domestic Violence have been established in Attica and 1 in Thessaloniki. The staff working in this field is constantly trained. At the same time, the cooperation with the Local Government and the local communities is strengthened, in order to prevent tragic situations.

Security in universities-demonstrations

On the safety of students, teachers and staff at universities, the minister said the law on setting up university protection teams is being implemented, according to schedule. On January 15, 2022, the three-month training of the 400 people hired for this purpose will begin. “The rector’s authorities must, first, formulate, as the law says, security plans and, where necessary, include in them the power of the university’s protection teams. It must be clear to everyone that where there are illegal acts that complainant, as happened at the Polytechnic Campus in Zografou, the Police will intervene and will do its duty “, said Mr. Theodorikakos.

Regarding the implementation of the law on marches and demonstrations, the minister said that the right to assemble is protected by the Constitution, this is undeniable, but equally undeniable is the right of citizens to move, to go to work, to Or this and the law applies.

“Borders are guarded effectively”

Mr. Theodorikakos said that all measures have been taken to prevent what “our neighbor in Evros” attempted from happening and “the borders are being guarded effectively”, the forces have been strengthened, modern electronic means have been provided for the protection of the borders and the In 2022, the region of Eastern Macedonia Thrace will be strengthened with 550 more border guards.

At the same time, a plan to increase the number of staff in detention centers with 1,018 employees is being implemented next year. RETURN is also strengthened.

In 80% the vaccinated police officers

The minister, referring to what happened in the midst of a pandemic, said that the Greek Police had a significant contribution to the preservation of social peace and cohesion, with the crucial role it played in the implementation of the measures. “Every day 8,000 police officers are on the streets to check the implementation of the measures”, as he noted and added that the Greek Police and the Ministry of Civil Protection “have an open front against the parastate of paranoia and irrationality, the deliberate spread of false news and organized attack on elected democratic institutions “. The services of ELAS intervene, as he stressed, in every violation of the law, as happened in the unprecedented incident in Pieria.

The parliamentary representative of the Movement for Change, Nadia Giannakopoulou, called on Mr. Theodorikakos to answer about the issue of unvaccinated police officers. “It is necessary to extend the obligation of vaccination to professional categories that come in direct contact with the citizens and especially to ELAS”, said the MP and called on the government to answer why there is this reluctance to proceed with the obligation to vaccinate police officers. “You are having a hard time, you do not dare, you are afraid,” said Ms. Giannakopoulou, noting that it is not possible for unvaccinated police officers to check the citizens for the observance of the measures against the dispersal.

“The struggle to vaccinate the maximum possible percentage of Greek police officers is continuous. We believe that with our arguments we can convince almost all police officers. For police officers, what applies to all employees in the public and private sector applies. “, with the exception of the medical staff, for whom the obligation with the patients is self-evident”, said the Minister of Citizen Protection and added that the percentage of those who have been vaccinated or have become ill, has exceeded 80%. He said, however, that the fight for persuasion is ongoing because the three vaccinations must be given. “I do not believe that the solution lies in the obligation of vaccination,” said Mr. Theodorikakos, who called on all parties to ask where he will be covered and will replace the staff that may be suspended, because he refuses to be vaccinated, especially at a time when there is a battle for the pandemic.

Regarding the competition for the identities, the minister said that it was in progress when the government of ND took over, and all the companies and consortia have appealed, against each other, and all of them are in the CoE. As Minister of Citizen Protection, I will fully respect the decision of the CoE, said Mr. Theodorikakos.
