Pacaembu should be ready for football on June 27th, says concessionaire

The concessionaire Allegra Pacaembu presented to the Court of Auditors of the Municipality of São Paulo (TCM-SP), this Tuesday (30), the new delivery schedule for the stadium, scheduled for June 27th.

The objective is to complete the mandatory interventions by the stipulated date, with the delivery of the football stadium, the stands, the field and the gates.

Apart from the mandatory interventions planned by City Hall, the multifunctional building should only be ready in October 2024.

The meeting was called to clarify the postponements and failure to hold the final of the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, on January 25, and the concert by singer Roberto Carlos in mid-April, initially scheduled to take place at Pacaembu. A TCM-SP technical meeting was held in June 2023.

Initially, delivery was expected to be in the 2nd half of 2023.

The delays were attributed to emergency works caused by hidden defects, problems that were not identified in the first assessments and ended up leading to unforeseen works, such as the restoration of the multi-sports gym.

It was necessary to remove the green paint from the 6 arches that form the roof, made of pink peroba. Damaged pieces were exchanged for other types of wood, as the pink peroba is endangered. Reinforcement was also made at the base of the structures, to avoid complete replacement with metallic material.

During the meeting, the municipal government secretary, Edson Aparecido, pointed out his frustration with the singer Roberto Carlos' event not being held correctly, and stated that fine adjustments needed to be made.

Asked about the non-delivery of the Naming Rights contract signed by the concessionaire with Mercado Livre, executive director Rafael Carvalho highlighted that it would not be appropriate to open the document as it would compromise the sponsor's brand strategies, causing potential sponsors to flee to other situations.

The topic of Pacaembu's Naming Rights has been questioned in the TCM-SP itself, in the Public Ministry of São Paulo and even in criminal matters since the announcement of the contract valued at more than R$1 billion.

The issue must be taken to the Court's plenary.

Historical heritage protection bodies, such as the Municipal Council for the Preservation of Historical, Cultural and Environmental Heritage of the City of São Paulo (Conpresp) and the Council for the Defense of Historical, Archaeological, Artistic and Tourist Heritage of the State of São Paulo (Condephaat) They make monthly visits to monitor the progress of the works and the preservation of the spaces where interventions took place.

TCM-SP must also intensify supervision.
