The Federal Senate will have a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) to investigate addiction to online betting, also known as bets, and criminal organizations associated with these platforms. The request for the creation of the CPI was read by the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), in a session this Tuesday (8).
The CPI is an initiative of Senator Soraya Thronicke (Podemos-MS), who collected signatures from 31 senators. In the plenary, the congresswoman stated that “you cannot close your eyes” to this issue.
“It is one of the biggest reasons for attacks on life, for separations, and it is a silent addiction. When a person is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you notice. When they are on their cell phone, you can often imagine that this person is just on social media, interacting. And no, she is playing”, said the senator.
The CPI will last 130 days. From now on, party leaders must nominate members for the commission to be installed. There will be 11 starters and seven substitutes. The collegiate must also have a designated president and rapporteur. According to Pacheco, the commission will have an expense limit of up to R$110,000.
Other CPIs
The Senate has another CPI that investigates, among other matters, online gambling and betting. This Tuesday, the board approved the summons of influencer Deolane Bezerra to give a statement. The hearing will also be scheduled by the president of the CPI, Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO).
Lawyer, businesswoman and influencer Deolane Bezerra, who was imprisoned for 19 days in September, is the target of investigation into crimes of money laundering and illegal gambling.
In the Chamber, deputy Rodrigo Ayres (Republicanos-TO) also presented a request to create a CPI on bets and illegal betting.
