He probably died instantly, crashing his car almost head-on into one of the plane trees that line via Romana Aponense in Padua. Riccardo Faggin, 26 years old, was a student of Nursing Sciences and, the day after the accident, he was supposed to discuss the Degree. The boy’s family, however, is trying to understand what happened, because the University has made it known that in reality, no thesis discussion was scheduledand that Riccardo was not about to graduate yet.
The parents had organized every detail to celebrate the Graduation, they had booked lunch at the restaurant and adorned the house with red bows. “We too are trying to understand what happened,” explained the father, Stefano Faggin, owner of an IT company and longtime volunteer at the Green Cross in Padua. “It’s an incredibly difficult and confusing time, please be patient, we don’t even have the strength to speak.” And again: «My son was a generous person, he volunteered in the parish, he didn’t like discos and never drove if he knew he was drinking».
Those who knew Riccardo remember him as «a boy wonderful, sunny, outgoing», who «one couldn’t help but love», as the mother of one of his contemporaries recounts. “I remember it when he was just three years old. As soon as he heard the news, my husband went home to his parents. He too, like Riccardo’s father, has been a volunteer of the Green Cross for many years».
The Padua prosecutor’s office, which has opened a file to try to clarify the incident, for now does not rule out any hypothesis, not even that may have been a voluntary act and not just an accident. The magistrates await the documents from the local police. The firefighters have certified that there are no skid marks on the asphalt.
