The mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes (PSD) and former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) met this Monday (20) and advanced in the construction of a second platform for the PT in Rio de Janeiro.
The PT tried to attract Paes to the ticket that already has Lula’s support for federal deputy Marcelo Freixo (PSB). At the meeting, however, the mayor of Rio reinforced that the PSD will launch Felipe Santa Cruz, former president of the OAB, to the state government.
PSD members heard by the CNN believe that a second platform is “guaranteed” for Lula in Rio, due to the proximity of the pre-candidate for the presidency of the Republic and Paes and the fact that Santa Cruz was a member of the PT and has a family linked to the party.
In addition, the party is considered “attractive” to the PT in Rio for not having a candidate for the Senate. Thus, the party could support, without hindrance, the PT party André Ceciliano to the senate – the PSB, from Freixo, wants to launch Alessandro Molon to the Senate.
At the same time, Paes tries to take the PSDB off Freixo’s radar.
THE CNN showed last week that the federal deputy is advancing to have the former mayor Cesar Maia, newly affiliated to the party, as his deputy. However, Paes and the state president of the PSDB, Rodrigo Maia, spoke last weekend, and sources linked to the party reported that PSD started to work with the possibility of a ticket, bringing together PT and PSDB in Rio.
