Pakistan: At the mercy of intense monsoon floods – Dozens dead

The Pakistan are hit by severe weather phenomena, with deadly floods occurring due to the monsoons, leaving behind hundreds of dead, injured, but also causing untold devastation.

As reported by Reuters, in the southern province of Balochistan, 57 people, including women and children, were killed after being swept away by floodsaccording to Ziaullah Langove, adviser on disaster management and internal affairs to the provincial premier, adding that eight dams broke due to the heavy rains.

Hundreds more were left homeless after their houses collapsed due to rain and floods, the official pointed out, adding that the monsoon rains are continuing.

Two people, including a six-year-old boy, were killed and four injured when their house collapsed due to rain in the northwestern province of Kiber-Panktunkwa, according to an official statement from local authorities.

Heavy rains have lashed the country in recent days, leaving large areas of Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi, flooded.

In neighboring Afghanistan, 24 people have died in floods in the east and south of the country, a spokesman for the disaster management agency said yesterday.
