An explosion destroyed a mosque on Friday (14) in northwestern Pakistan, police said, injuring a leader of the Islamic Party and three others, including children.
Abdullah Nadeem, a local leader of political party Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (Jui-F), was considered the target of the explosion and was hospitalized with serious injuries, said Asif Bahadar, district police chief in the southern Waziristan. He said two children were among the injured.
It was not immediately clear who was behind the explosion.
The attacks have increased in the border regions of Pakistan with Afghanistan in recent months.
Last month, a bomb man killed six faithful during Friday’s prayers in an Islamic seminar in northwestern Pakistan, known as a historical training field for the Afghan Taliban.
This week, in southwest Baluchistan, separatist militants kidnapped a train and kept passengers hostage to a full day impasse with security forces.
Pakistan has promised to repress the growing militancy and stated that the militants are finding safe haven in the neighboring Afghanistan, an accusation that the Afghan Taliban in power denies.
