Pakistan: Most daily cases in the last two months were recorded

Pakistan today reported more than 700 coronavirus cases in one day, the highest daily number in two months, as authorities warned of a fifth wave of infections and prepared to try to stem the highly transmitted Omicron variant.

At least 708 cases in the last 24 hours have pushed the positivity index to 1.55%, the highest level since October 24, according to data from the Center for National Administration and Business (NCOC), which is responsible for managing the pandemic. .

“There are clear indications that another wave of pandemics is beginning, which has been expected in recent weeks,” Assad Omar, the minister responsible for managing the pandemic, wrote on Twitter.

The gene sequence identified a growing number of Omicron variants, mainly in the country’s largest city, Karachi, he said.

About 70 million people in Pakistan, or 32% of the population, have been vaccinated with both doses of coronavirus.

The government today announced the issuance of commemorative doses for all citizens over 30 years of age. Children over 12 are vaccinated in their schools.

The first case of the Omicron variant was reported on December 13 in Karachi, and by December 27, a total of 75 cases had been reported, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Twelve cases are linked to trips abroad.
