Palazzo in Rome transforms into hotel with interiors by director Luca Guadagnino

The film director Luca Guadagnino known for creating an idyllic Italy in the film “Call Me By Your Name” and, more recently, for combining tennis courts with a love triangle in “Rivals”, is also the name behind a hotel in Rome .

THE Palazzo Talìa situated a short distance from the Trevi Fountain and Via del Corso, had its 16th-century structure remodeled and opened its doors at the beginning of the year as a 26-room boutique hotel .

The interiors of the common areas, including the restaurant, bar and wellness center, were all designed by Studio Luca Guadagnino an interiors studio led by the filmmaker. This was the first hospitality project completed by the studio, founded in 2017.

Most of the furniture, some coverings and even a single hotel suite, the Terrace Suite, with an area of 52 m² and a 66 m² terrace, were also designed by the director’s company.

Common areas and suite

One of the highlights of the common area of Palazzo Talìa is the central staircase, marked by a large floral-themed carpet. A second level features function rooms and a 248 m² hall adorned with 18th century frescoes by Italian painter Gaspare Serenari.

The wellness area is made of marble and tiles and features a 33 m² hydromassage pool with vaulted ceiling, dry sauna, Turkish bath and two treatment rooms, as well as an ice bath and shower with lights and water jets .

Of the 26 accommodations, only one was designed by the director’s studio: the Terrace Suite which opens onto a 66 m² terrace with views of the inner courtyard and parts of the Basilica Sant’Andrea delle Fratte, which is located just behind the hotel and dates back to the 17th century. The internal area of the suite is 52 m² and includes a living room with a fireplace, peach-colored wood paneling and pink tones.

The restaurant and bar are also designed by the studio. THE Tramae restaurant serves Italian flavors such as vitello tonnato and spaghetti alla nerano in an environment inspired by French bistros, complete with an outdoor patio. Already the Bar della Musa It has frescoes on the ceiling and serves wines, spirits and cocktails.

Residence and school

Built in the 16th century, the palazzo served as the residence of Angelo Maria Colocci, a humanist who was the secretary of Pope Leo X. In later times, the place became a kind of school that welcomed academics, nobles and pontiffs.

The name Talìa is a reference to one of the muses of Greek mythology, whose virtues were comedy and idyllic poetry. Its name also points to “abundance” and “prosperity”. The palazzo’s restoration project began in 2021 and was completed three years later.

Born in Palermo, Luca Guadagnino is the director of “Call Me By Your Name”, nominated for four Oscar statuettes, and is preparing to release a new film, “Queer”, with Daniel Craig in the lead role.
