Palestinian official points to “possible crisis” by accusing Israel of not fulfilling agreement with prisoners

A Palestinian official who focuses on Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails warned Saturday of a “possible crisis” in the deal for Hamas to release Gaza hostages in exchange for Israel’s release of Palestinian detainees.

Israel is not releasing prisoners in order of length of service, Qadura Fares, head of the Palestinian Commission for Detainee and Former Prisoner Affairs, told CNN .

“There are indications of a possible crisis regarding the list of names announced by Israel due to Israel’s failure to adhere to the agreed seniority criteria in the agreement,” Fares said.

A CNN asked Israeli authorities for a response to the accusation.

Fares made the comment as Israel prepared to release another 42 prisoners on Saturday (25), after releasing 39 women and teenagers on Friday (24). Under the agreement, Israel releases three Palestinians from prison for every Israeli hostage allowed to leave Gaza.

The Israeli prison administration has received the names of the 42 women and minors who will be released in the second batch of the agreement, it told CNN on Saturday an Israeli official familiar with the process.

As with Friday’s releases, the process will begin with the transfer of detainees from Megiddo and Damon prisons to Ofer prison.

After the release of the Israeli hostages from the Gaza Strip, all Palestinian prisoners will be released from Ofer via Red Cross buses.

Jerusalem prisoners will be transferred to police stations in the city and then released. West Bank residents were released at the Beitunia checkpoint on the outskirts of Ramallah on Friday.
