Palestinian organizations are asking the International Criminal Court to investigate allegations of genocide against Israel

Three Palestinian human rights organizations said they asked the International Criminal Court (IPT) to investigate it Israelwhich they accuse of committing war crimes including genocide by bombing and besieging Gaza.

Israel is not a member of the Hague-based court and does not recognize its jurisdiction. He has rejected the accusations of genocide and said that its actions target Hamas militants who rule Gaza; not civilians.

Asked for comment, a spokesman for Israel’s foreign ministry said: “Israel it also collects evidence of crimes against humanity and war crimes perpetrated by Hamas during the October 7 attack (in Israel) and thereafter, including the use of civilians as human shields (in Gaza)”.

The three organizations – Al Haq, Al Mezan and Palestine Human Rights Campaign– they stated that they asked the ICC to focus on Israeli airstrikes on densely populated civilian areas in Gazain the siege of the area and the displacement of the population.

“These actions amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, including genocide and incitement to genocide,” they said in a joint press release.

The ICC reported today that received communication from the three organizations and how it will evaluate the information without going into detail about their content.

Israel launched its attack on Gaza in response to a cross-border raid by Hamas in southern Israel on October 7 in which gunmen killed 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and took about 240 hostages, according to Israeli accounts.

Palestinian officials say that Israel’s actions in Gaza have since killed over 10,000 people.

The ICC can investigate citizens of non-member states in certain circumstances, including when crimes are alleged to have been committed on the territory of member states. The Palestinian Territories are included in the list of members of the ICC.

Last week, families of Israeli victims of the October 7 attacks also filed documents with the ICC calling on the court to look into crimes by Hamas.

Meanwhile, at least three Palestinians were killed in an Israeli raid on a road used by displaced Palestinians heading to the southern Gaza Strip, Hamas-affiliated media reported, citing Gaza health officials.
