Palestinian shot dead by Israeli army in West Bank, third since yesterday

A Palestinian was killed today by Israeli security forces in a refugee camp near Bethlehem in the West Bank, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said.

Ayman Mohaisen, 29, was killed in the Dehisa refugee camp near Bethlehem, the statement said.

The Israeli army has not yet commented on the incident.

Yesterday, Wednesday, two Palestinians were killed by Israeli security forces in the occupied West Bank.

Gofran Warasna, 31, was shot in the chest near the al-Arub refugee camp in the Hebron area, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Defense.

The Israeli army said it had “neutralized” an attacker holding a knife and was “approaching a soldier conducting a security operation” on a road near al-Arub camp.

“The soldiers responded by opening fire,” the source added, adding that no soldiers were injured and posting a photo of a small kitchen knife.

Another Palestinian was shot dead last night during an Israeli army operation in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.

“A man who was shot in the chest and thigh was taken to Jenin Hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries,” the Palestinian ministry said in a statement.

The Israeli army said in a statement that it was conducting an operation in Yabad, a village near Jenin.

“Army forces are currently conducting an operation in the village of Yambad to demolish the house of a terrorist who attacked the city of Bnei Brak” in Israel on March 29.

The Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that six Palestinians were injured during the operation.

On March 29, Dia Hamarsa, a Palestinian from Yambad, opened fire on passers-by in Bnei Brak, a suburb of Tel Aviv, before being shot dead by security forces. Five people were killed in the attack, including an Israeli Arab policeman.

“On April 17, the army announced to Dia Hamarsa’s family that it was going to demolish its house in Yambad,” the statement said.

Israel regularly demolishes homes of Palestinians accused of anti-Israel attacks, calling the measure a deterrent.

For their part, human rights organizations denounce such demolition as a means of collective punishment.

In recent weeks, following a series of attacks on Israel, the Israeli army has increased its operations in the West Bank, an area it occupied during the 1967 war.
