Arriving in Brazil, the award remained next to the director until his death in November 2009. But in 2022, the Secretary of Culture of Salto (SP), Oséas Singh Jr, revealed that The Golden Palm was locked for almost ten years in a safe in the city.

Since no one knew the password, it was necessary to break into the safe so that it was possible to find the honor belonging to the 1962 movie. At the time, in an interview with TV Tem, Oséas stated that The opening process of the site took almost an hour and a half and was accompanied by Anselmo Duarte Júnior, one of the artist’s four children.

Despite everything, the safe was finally opened and The maximum prize of the Cannes Festival was found alongside checks of the time, documents and other unknown items.
