Panama: Ten children freed from the clutches of a sex exploitation network

Ten children in the hands of an alleged network sexual exploitation were rescued during a police operation, which led to the arrest of three people in Panama and to Costa Rica, announced his prosecutor Panama.

“The victims are (aged) between 4 and 16 years old and the persons connected (s.s. with the case) are close relatives” of the minors, clarified the Attorney General Panama, Emeldo Brands, after the end of the operation that had a code name “Light of Hope”.

The three detainees “helped” send children from the city Baru, 525 km southwest of Panama City, on the border with Costa Rica, where he was sexually exploited, according to Mr. Brands.

In a press release, the prosecutor’s office clarified that ten minors were rescued.

Police operation carried out by local authorities in Baru had the effect of dismantling the network.

For their part, the authorities in Costa Rica announced that they had arrested a local and two citizens Panama in San Jorge and in Laurel, two cities on the border. Defendants in this case face up to 20 to 30 years in prison if convicted.
