PancakeSwap Enables Geoblocking for Users in Belarus and Crimea

Users from Iran and nine other countries and regions on the planet will soon be blocked from accessing PancakeSwap, the popular DEX on Binance Smart Chain.

The largest DEX in the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) ecosystem, PancakeSwap, introduces geo-blocking of IP addresses of users from Belarus, Crimea, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zimbabwe, Iraq, Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Syria, Sudan.

On the introduction of restrictions for Iran from March 9, with reference to PancakeSwap, reported to subscribers of the cryptocurrency community CryptoClub.

Traditionally, the introduction of restrictions on services based on geographic features is typical for centralized exchanges, such as Binance, which blocks users from Canada. And it is little used in decentralized counterparts.

However, the reality is that some DEX platforms, under pressure from regulators and against the backdrop of US sanctions, have begun to restrict access to certain IP addresses.

The popular decentralized exchange aggregator 1inch found itself in a similar position, which since 2021 began to identify users from the United States by IP address and block their transactions.
