Pandora Papers journalistic research and what it revealed about the rich and powerful of our planetcaused a stir in many political offices around the world.
In relation to foreign press reports about the Pandora Papers, the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus issued a statement, according to the Athens News Agency, in which it states the following:
- The Pandora Papers are documents dating back to 2015 and include allegations of misconduct involving 35 current and former leaders as well as 330 government officials.
- As far as the President of the Republic is concerned, no fault is found.
The reports explicitly state that there is no involvement of the President. As the investigation clearly records, the President neither participated in the creation nor had or has participated in such companies.
It is noted that the Government, identifying control issues arising from companies whose legal status provided the possibility of non-disclosure of the real beneficiaries (Shell Companies and Offshore companies), already in 2018 terminated the operation of shell companies, while recently with a Government bill , there is an obligation to keep a register of beneficiaries for all companies.
Therefore, any attempt to reproduce non-existent allegations serves no other purpose than petty partisan expediencies, to the detriment of its institution. President and the prestige of the country.
Pandora Papers Commission: Commission vigorously fights tax evasion
The commission will not comment on specific names mentioned in the Pandora Papers, Deputy Commissioner Dana Spinand said during a briefing for correspondents.
“We are not in a position to comment on the names and individual entities mentioned,” Ms Spinand said, adding that the Commission was “fighting hard to tax evasion».
At the same time, spokesman Daniel Ferry said the commission had seen reports of Pandora Papers investigations and that it was “very active in addressing these issues”.
“This does not mean that we should be satisfied and we will continue to work to further strengthen our arsenal against tax abuse,” he added.
