Among the recordings of the new edition of X Factor and the many projects that see her protagonist, Paola Iezzi He says he lives a period in which things are very good “even if the world decidedly less”. This is why events such as the free concert that will propose Wednesday 25 June at the Ravizza Park in Milan within the fourth edition of The District of Joythe event dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ universe conceived and produced by Serravalle Designer Outlet In the framework of the celebrations for its twenty -fifth anniversary, they are increasingly necessary. Paola Iezzi, on the other hand, is not new to the manifestations of the Milan Pride Week. Especially this year that the rights seem to be put even more under discussion than before.
How important is art in a period of crisis like this?
“I always say that art, more than a refuge, is a way to relieve pain and to find the collective strength to join together, also trying to fight in a peaceful way everything that comes against”.
Was it ever a time when Paola Iezzi understood that her art was important for someone?
“I certainly understood it through social networks and, even earlier, when the first emails in which the boys and girls began to arrive were welcomed by our music and wanted to let us know: from there I started understanding not only that we were doing something good, but also that there is also a strong sense of responsibility that is right to make us more aware and prepared”.
Does it have to do the time?
«The more time passes and the more we become wise and reflective. When I receive rather elaborate messages from extremely young and old children who tell us about their life experience I understand how important it is today to expose themselves and put our face on it. Take positions, express themselves on certain topics and make people feel not excluded through art, the word and gestures is necessary as well as fundamental. It was great to understand that the path that my sister was made and even individually, it was worth the pain of being lived ».
He feared not worth it?
«It is normal that every now and then an artist wonders what he does. After all, they are only songs, as someone said. Instead it is not true, because the same music that served you when you were the kids to recognize you in something today can serve at many generations who will be able to draw strength and support. Especially in this historical moment ».
Fear the historical moment?
«We live in a world that scares the new generations but also we adults: sometimes I feel the danger of a communicative detachment, attributable above all to the fact that certain adults struggle to grow. I have always thought that adults should do adults when they become it, without however losing the ability to play at the appropriate moments. You don’t have to become cold, cynical, distant and deal only with administrative things or far from fun, because children, kids and younger people must be guided. We must be a point of reference for them, a guide ».
What degree of intolerance towards the different thinking has the world that surrounds us arrived?
«Intolerance is a fact of reality and in fact: it exists and has always existed. Today we see it more ferocious because we are much more bombarded in information and images than before. Intolerance for me is above all the result of ignorance: if you do not know a world or a community it can scare you. I’m sorry, especially when that ignorance is exploited and ride to obtain consensus. Spreading fear is the same as to spread ignorance, they are two elements that go hand in hand ».
Hope is what is?
«Living in a society of righteous in which the government does not exploit ignorance and fear to be able to draw advantages. I believe that the population is always ready to welcome: it is like present the things that changes everything. And that’s why all the struggles that are made, the practical gestures, the music, the arts, the manifestations, the descend in the square and to express their dissent today are more important than ever. We need to change quickly because the world is radicalizing more and more, and the radicalization of thought is frightening as far as hurry spreads. Hate is a multiplier, and social media have become a very powerful diffusion tool ».

Where should you start again according to Paola Iezzi?
«From the disinformation that leads to being afraid of accepting those who are different from us. The same goes for immigrants, for everything that comes from outside. Not everyone wants, time and patience to listen and dig deep, unfortunately. It seems to have returned to the Middle Ages, the media lynching and to the people burned in the square. Today violence is more psychological and verbal, even if there is always the risk that it becomes physical – I think, for example, of the many gay or lesbian couples beaten on the street without any reason. Serious measures would be needed towards those who implement violence of this type: you have to defend society from crime ».
The Zan bill was needed precisely to this, but it hasn’t passed.
«It is important not to go back to the acquired rights: you have to remain vigilant, and this is that the manifestations, concerts in favor of the community and rights are needed. Among the rights for the LGBTQIA+community, there are everyone’s rights. When the rights of your neighbors or your friends or even friends who are not yours are put at risk, it is a moment that yours can be made at risk. I would like to see more indignation towards these retrograde steps ».
Speaking of diversity, has there ever been a moment in his life in which they made her feel different?
«I have always felt different in thought but nobody has ever bullied me. At school I never tried the exclusion but the injustice has always given me a lot: there were people in my class who were constantly made fun of because they could not express what they had inside, and I was not there. I have often fought companions and companions who carried on attitudes that tended to exclude others: I have never been silent because I never explained to myself why there was a need to humiliate a person who showed difficulties in facing certain things. It is cowardly, because diversity is not weakness but wealth ».
Who can teach it?
“Schools, because schools after the family take care of the education of the children: if we can learn the poems by heart, the variations, the multiplications and the divisions, we must also learn a sentimental and sexual education when we are in time. We should teach children to defend themselves from the feelings that pervade them: if you confuse love with possession, for example, it is over. If you know mathematics and Latin but you don’t know how to love you then failed ».

What did Paola Iezzi help to recognize what love is?
«The mistakes, experience and therapy I made during my life. Maybe not everyone has the desire to embark on certain paths, but I think it is necessary to analyze themselves to understand if we have parts to take care of or, even, to be eradicated within us. A person has a duty to fortify himself in a society that does not defend you. We are forced to look for our tools, hoping that life will teach us the rest ».
With the hope that more and more artists expose themselves to make their voices heard.
«The generation preceding mine was exposed to the songs. It seems to me that, fortunately, there is again a great commitment in this sense: the artists make it clear what they think and it is important, but even more important it would be that our politicians took a serious commitment to change things, perhaps through targeted school reforms that do not leave the teachers alone. I also add that when a society cuts funds to artists, places of art, theaters and cinema makes a great disservice to the community for which she works. I have great admiration for those who do politics with honesty and commitment by putting their face on it, and I hope you get more and more towards a type of right society ».
