Pope Francis met at the Vatican on Wednesday (16), with members of the medical team that saved his life during a five-week hospitalization to treat a double pneumonia, thanking them for care.
The 88 -year -old is gradually making more public appearances while recovering from the most serious health crisis of its 12 years of papacy.
During the hearing, he met with about 70 doctors and staff at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome, where he was treated for 38 days.
“Thanks for everything you did,” said Francisco, speaking in a soft, hoarse voice.
As in his last public appearance on Sunday (13), the Pope did not receive oxygen during the meeting, but breathed alone.
“Thanks for your service at the hospital,” said the Pontiff. “It’s very good. Continue like that.”
The medical team of the Catholic Church leader encouraged him to rest for two months after hospital discharge to allow his body to recover completely.
Francisco initially remained out of sight after returning home, but has made several brief public appearances.
The Vatican will start this Thursday (17) the busiest season, with at least six religious celebrations in the four days before Easter, the most important Christian holiday, on Sunday (20).
It is not yet known how much the Pope will participate in the events.
The Holy See delegated Senior Cardinals to lead each of the celebrations in the place of Francis.
