Pope Francis had an unnamed meeting at the Vatican on Wednesday afternoon with King Charles III and Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom.
The British royal family couple makes a state visit to Italy.
Charles and Camilla were expected to make a formal visit of state to the Vatican, but postponed the plans after the doctors prescribed two months of rest to Francisco after the pontiff suffered a serious bilateral pneumonia crisis.
The Pope met with the royal couple privately and wished the best for the 20th wedding anniversary, which they celebrated on Wednesday, said a statement from the Vatican.
Buckingham Palace said Charles and Camilla “were delighted that the Pope was well enough to receive them-and had the opportunity to share his best desires personally.”
As a British monarch, Charles leads the Church of England, which separated from the Catholic Church in 1534.
Francisco and Charles have met twice, in 2017 and 2019, before Charles became king.
The late Queen Elizabeth II visited Francis in the Vatican in 2014.
