Parade PS5169 and PS5170 chips are designed for mobile devices with a USB-C connector

Taiwanese company Parade Technologies, which specializes in chips for high-speed interfaces, displays and touch controllers, announced the availability of the PS5169 and PS5170 chips this week. They are designed for smartphones and other mobile devices and are plugged between the SoC or controller and the USB-C connector. The task of the PS5169 and PS5170 is to reconstruct the waveform and ensure its integrity, taking into account the load in the form of a USB cable. Such microcircuits are usually called redrivers. The PS51xx family chips support USB 3.2 and DisplayPort 1.4a.

More precisely, they are fully compliant with the USB-IF USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 specification, transmitting signals of two lanes at up to 10 Gbps, VESA DP 1.4a specification with support for up to four lanes at HBR3 or 8.1 Gbps and VESA connection speeds DisplayPort Alt Mode 2.0. The PS5170 features an AUX switch for SBU signals.

The manufacturer refers to the advantages of the PS51xx family as low power consumption and support for deep sleep mode, in which the power consumption is approximately equal to 1 μW. For operation, the redrivers need one supply voltage – 1.8 V. For the external design, QFN cases were chosen, which are optimal for smartphones and other small form factor devices.

The PS5169 is already in series production in a 26-pin QFN package measuring 2.7 x 3.7 mm. The PS5170 is available in a 34-pin QFN package measuring 3.1mm x 4.4mm and is available as a sample.
