Parallel imports will not allow importing equipment to Russia in the same volumes. Prices will rise by 50% compared to February

Parallel imports are unlikely to make it possible to supply equipment to Russia in the same volumes, as stated by one of the informants of the authoritative Forbes publication, who works in a large retail chain. No country in the world will be able to buy a million smartphones in one batch and send them to Russia without the permission of the copyright holder. That is, the goods will be delivered in small batches, which will not allow building a systematic business.

Also, do not forget that equipment imported from other countries is adapted to the markets of countries (for example, pre-installed software in different languages). In addition, in the case of parallel imports, such equipment may not be legally repairable in Russia.

“Producers themselves take on this responsibility. In the case of parallel imports, it is not clear how importers will decide this, because sellers will be responsible for violations, ”said Anton Guskov, head of the Association of Trading Companies and Producers of Electrical Household and Computer Equipment.

Parallel imports will not allow importing equipment to Russia in the same volumes. Prices will rise by 50% compared to February

Recall that on May 6, the Ministry of Industry and Trade approved the list of goods allowed for parallel imports to Russia. It includes Apple Watches, game consoles, Apple and Samsung smartphones and other products – a total of 56 categories.

Analysts believe that after the legalization of parallel imports, prices for equipment for consumers may increase by 50% compared to the period before the start of the special operation. Due to the strengthening of the ruble, the cost of equipment may decrease compared to April, but it will still remain high relative to February prices. It will be possible to import goods through Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia.

In addition, there will also be a margin for the end user due to logistics costs. In order to reduce costs and expenses, stores will most likely begin to refuse their own imports: they will look for a distribution partner who will bear part of the costs.
