Paramedic attends to victim of fatal accident; his worst nightmare came true

One of the greatest fears of health personnel is coming face to face with the possibility of saving the life of a loved one, since the jumble of emotions, which surely agglomerates inside, must be a most disconcerting feeling. That is why they are not allowed to attend to family or friends, as the fraternity involved can affect their professional perception and cloud logical reasoning.

Unfortunately, you are not always in control of these decisions. Such is the case of the unfortunate event that occurred on November 15, in Calgary, Canada, when Jayme Erickson responded to an emergency call. The Canadian paramedic came across the terrible scene of a car crash, from which she at first glance concluded that the victim needed to get to a hospital urgently, since she could only help by getting her out of the car and applying basic first aid.

He did just that, and with no more power in his hands, he let the young woman be treated by medical personnel. Once at home, Jayme was contacted by agents of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCPM), who would reveal to her the heartbreaking news that the person she had seen that same day was her daughter Montana, from 17 years.

Days later, Erickson shared his grief with the press, revealing the great regret that he carried for not having been able to recognize his girl due to the seriousness of her injuries. In addition, she confessed that what she had to live through was her biggest nightmare as her paramedic, since having the life of her firstborn in her hands was, without a doubt, a highly traumatic event.

My worst nightmare as a paramedic has come true. I cared for the seriously injured patient, doing what I could. My shift was over and I went home. Minutes after arriving home, the doorbell rang. My life changed forever. The severely injured patient I had just attended to was of my own blood. My only daughter. My little me. Her injuries were so horrible that I didn’t even recognize her.

Richard Reed, Jayme’s friend and partner, revealed that she was the first to arrive on the scene and that he immediately understood how serious the young woman was, so despite not being able to do anything else, he did not hesitate to stay with her. until the ambulance took her away. In the end, the sad moment was used to remember the life of Montana, accompanied by firefighters, paramedics, family members and police officers, Jayme Erickson dedicated the following words to her:

She was a fighter and she fought until the day she died, and she was beautiful. She was so beautiful. If she ever tried for something, she would get it done.
