This year’s edition of the Parintins Festival, considered the largest cultural festival in the Amazon region, should be marked by the combination of tradition and environmental preservation.
Boi Bumbá Caprichoso created a specific board focused on environmental actions. One of the objectives of the new sector is to encourage and implement sustainable actions within warehouses, where much of the waste is produced.
This year, the iron used to make the allegories already has its destination, through a company specialized in pressing the material. The waste is then sent to Manaus, minimizing the volume of waste in landfills in Parintins. Another initiative is a partnership with the Parintins Collectors Association, where part of the waste is taken.
On the red side, Boi Bumbá Garantido decided to invest in the production of artisanal feathers to cause minimal impact on nature. Previously, the article was imported from China and Argentina and had high costs for the association. Now, more than 125 thousand feathers have been produced and can be used for around 4 years in other festivals.
The initial production of the pieces is carried out in a secret location, where only a Garantido worker has access. With the material already ready, it is sent to the team of assistants, made up 100% of women, who are responsible for making the mold, placing the tarisca (a long, thin piece of wood) and then carrying out the finishing touches.
The result is a material that can easily be confused with natural feathers, which gives veracity to the work done by the team’s hands. With the entire production process in Parintins, 2,000 to 3,000 feathers are produced per day.
This year, the 3rd edition of “Recicla Galera” will be held, a project carried out through the State Secretariat for the Environment and the Coca-Cola Brasil System, which promotes a more sustainable festival, encouraging the correct disposal of recyclable waste and generating income for the collectors.
In the two previous editions, more than 7.8 tons of waste were sent for recycling. New this year are the collection machines, where fans of the two oxen can bring their waste and exchange it for gifts, in addition to earning points for their ox.
At the end of the competition, the machines’ score will be added to the amount of waste collected and correctly disposed of by Galeras Itens 19, at Bumbódromo, during the three nights of the festival.
The fans who engage most in recycling will win the title of Sustainable Champion of the 57th Parintins Festival and an investment of R$20,000 to be used in environmental actions.
