The Brazilian women’s volleyball team delighted fans this Thursday (1st) after beating Japan 3 sets to 0 with partial scores of 25/20, 25/17 and 25/18, achieving their second triumph in the qualifying phase and avenging the defeat suffered in the Nations League semi-finals in June.
With a calm performance, the two-time Olympic champions (2008 and 2012) secured a place in the quarterfinals of the tournament one day after coach José Roberto Guimarães’ birthday. The coach turned 70 on Wednesday (31) and received congratulations from the players on the court after the match.
In addition to Zé Roberto’s birthday, the rematch against Japan and the team’s performance were celebrated by Brazilian fans, who filled social media with memes on Thursday morning. Comparisons with the men’s team and the fact that “Alibi”, by Pabllo Vittar, became the theme song of opposite Rosamaria in the tournament also generated jokes.
