Several videos of witnesses who witnessed the demonstration gesture, incredulous, have been published on social networks. On Twitter, a user wrote: “I just saw a man throw a piece of cake on the Mona Lisa.” A few hours later, he posted a video, showing the caretaker cleaning the protective glass of the work. “It doesn’t seem real to me. The glass managed to protect the work well, which it has not suffered any damage, but it is not the first time that the Mona Lisa is the victim of an act of vandalism. In August 2009, a tourist threw a cup of tea at the protective glass. In 1974, in Tokyo, someone tried to ruin the work with a red spray. Even earlier, in 1957, a Bolivian had thrown a stone at the painting, slightly damaging it. At the time, as Le Monde recounted, he explained: “I had a stone in my pocket, and all of a sudden I got the idea of throwing it.”
