Paris: Armed robbery at a Chanel jewelry store

An armed robbery took place today in a Chanel jewelry store in the center of Paris, with the perpetrators escaping on motorcycles and being searched by the French police.

A video that came to light on Twitter shows a robber with an automatic weapon outside the jewelry store on the famous Rue de la Paix, a busy shopping street in the capital. Seconds later, three other robbers – all dressed in black and wearing helmets – leave the store holding bags and escape on two motorcycles.

“It all happened very quickly and unfortunately the first police officers to arrive were on bicycles,” an eyewitness told Reuters.

Chanel announced that there was no injury and that it is cooperating with the police. He did not reveal the value of the robbery.

This watch and jewelry store is operating temporarily until the renovation of the iconic Chanel store in Place Vendome in the French capital is completed.

In recent months, there have been many robberies in Parisian jewelry stores. In September, police arrested three suspects in an attack on a Bulgari jewelry store in the same area. At that time, the criminals had opened fire from inside the car they used to escape with a booty of about 10 million euros.

In July, robbers snatched jewelry worth about 2 million euros from a Chaumet store near Avenue des Champs-Elysees. However, the stolen jewelry was located and the alleged perpetrators were arrested.
