Paris Fashion Week, Russian Valentin Yudashkin’s show canceled

Difficult to remain helpless in front of what happens in Ukraine. Impossible not to do everything in one’s power to send a clear message of support to those who are undergoing an unjust act such as war.

The world of fashion is doing it with its clothes and with its fashion shows, which have always been a field of denunciation and reflection on social issues. Yet a certain “unease” in carrying forward international events, such as the Paris Fashion Week – recently concluded -, if not with a clear idea behind us on what we want to express in such a delicate historical situation.

On the question the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode she was crystal clear taking sides in support of Ukraine, unlike what the Russian designer apparently did Valentin Yudashkin, whose parade, scheduled for March 8, is been deleted from the calendar – even if it took place virtually on the atelier’s social channels.

«Our team wanted to verify the position of Valentin Yudashkin. to see if he had expressed reservations about the war in Ukraine and if he had distanced himselfAnd – explains the president of the Fédération in an interview with WWD Ralph Toledano – It became clear that he is an affiliate of the regime. For this, I considered that there was no space for him in the program ».

A decision not taken lightly and without more than just reflection: “There is nothing against the Russian people, but we will neither support nor accept having those who support their position on our calendar”.

Yudashkin he has repeatedly taken part in various editions of the Paris Fashion Week and one of his most important projects was entrusted to him in 2008 by the Kremlin itself: redesigning Russian military uniforms.
